As of Oct.1 in Michigan, the new Recreation Passport system for using state parks has taken effect and in the end, it costs a bit less than with the old sticker system.

Michigan Recreation Passport

Under the Passport system, when drivers renew their license plates at the Secretary of State office, they will have the chance to purchase an annual pass for only $10 as opposed to the old cost of $24. Gone will be the windshield stickers and day passes, replaced by a license plate sticker and the words, “Recreation Passport” printed on the top of the vehicle registration.

Considering that state park day passes cost $6 in 2010, it doesn’t take much to see that park users are indeed getting a better deal. And for those driving motorcycles to their favorite state park, it will only cost $5.
